Machine Control Transformer

Control transformers are mainly suitable for circuits with AC 50Hz (or 60Hz), voltage 1000V and below, and can operate continuously for a long time under rated load. Usually used as a control lighting and indicator light power supply for electrical appliances in machine tools and mechanical equipment.

A control transformer is a small dry-type transformer. Commonly used as a local lighting power supply, signal light or indicator light power supply, and as a control circuit power supply in electrical equipment.

Basic concepts

In low-voltage distribution systems, control transformers are named after their frequent use in control systems. It is actually a step-down transformer with multiple output voltages, and can also be used as a power source for low-voltage lighting, signal lights, and indicator lights. [1] When using a control transformer, two points should be noted: first, the transformer power, and second, correct wiring. The total power of the load connected to the secondary side (i.e. secondary) shall not exceed the power of the control transformer, and short circuits are not allowed. Otherwise, it will cause its temperature to be too high, and in severe cases, it will be burned out. The primary and secondary (i.e. primary and secondary) wiring of the control transformer must not be connected incorrectly, especially the primary side wiring. The voltage value that should be connected to the primary side is marked on its terminal. It is not allowed to connect the 380V power line to the 220V terminal, but the 220V power line can be connected to the 380V terminal. At this time, all output voltages on the secondary side will be reduced by 1.73 times. The secondary load should be connected to the corresponding terminal according to its rated voltage value. For example, a 6.3 V indicator light should be connected to the 6.3 V terminal, a 36 V lighting bulb for machine tools should be connected to the 36 V terminal, and a 127 V AC contactor coil for machine tools should be connected to the 127 V terminal.

operational principle

The control transformer operates using the principle of electromagnetic induction. The transformer has two sets of coils. Primary and secondary coils. The secondary coil is located outside the primary coil. When the primary coil is energized with alternating current, the transformer core generates an alternating magnetic field, and the secondary coil generates an induced electromotive force. The turns ratio of Satons transformer coils is equal to the voltage ratio.
